India creates history with successfully shoots down satellite in space : PM Modi
New Delhi : "India has created a history today with the successfully shoots down a low-orbiting satellite in a missile to the space. With this achievement India has become the fourth nation in the world after United States, China and Russia to demonstrate anti-satellite missile capability by shooting down a satellite." Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in an address to the nation.
Addressing the nation on the success of what he called 'Mission Shakti', Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced that India had joined the elite club of space powers by shooting down a low earth orbit satellite with an anti-satellite missile or A-SAT. PM Modi called it a test of India's capability to shoot down low orbit satellites and asserted that India's action was not directed against any country.
Today, we have enough satellites that are contributing in various segments such as agriculture, disaster management, communication, weather, navigation etc. Mission Shakti operation was a difficult target to achieve which was completed successfully within three minutes of launch. India has entered its name as an elite space power. An anti-satellite weapon A-SAT successfully targeted a live satellite on a low earth orbit.
I assure the international community that our capability won't be used against anyone but is purely India's defence initiative for its security. We're against arms raised in space. This test won't breach any international law or treaties. Till now, 3 countries of the world - America, Russia and China had this achievement and now India is the 4th country to have achieved this feat. I salute India's space scientists and the DRDO.
