Dharmshala : Writing to fellow Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi to congratulate her on her party's remarkable victory in the general elections in Myanmar, Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Saturday hoped that she will fulfill the aspirations of the people.

"It's a reflection of the people's confidence that you will be able to help them fulfill their hopes and aspirations," he said in a congratulatory letter.

"These elections are a historic milestone for Myanmar. There is immense goodwill and worldwide support for this flowering of democracy in Myanmar. I am confident that all interested parties will make the most of this opportunity in a spirit of peace and reconciliation," he said.

The spiritual leader also reminded her that when the two of them had met previously, they had discussed some of the problems Myanmar is facing, including the situation of the Muslims.

"As a fellow Buddhist, may I again alert you to the need to reach out to all sections of society," he said.

The elderly monk ended by expressing appreciation of Kyi's friendship, wishing her good health and the strength in meeting the many challenges that lie ahead in securing the development of Myanmar and the flourishing of its people.

The Dalai Lama has lived in India since fleeing his homeland in 1959. The Tibetan administration-in-exile is based in this north Indian hill town.
